Hurricane Harvey blew into Texas leaving disaster in its path. Pouring record breaking amounts of rainfall all along the coastline, Harvey sent thousands of families fleeing for safety sometimes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. In emergency situations like a hurricane, tornado, flooding, or other natural disasters, there are always people who step in to volunteer assistance. American Red Cross, Salvation Army, FEMA, state and local government are all trained for such emergencies. Everyone wants to answer the call when disaster strikes. But who will be there day to day when a family has a need beyond disaster?
Here in Bixby, Oklahoma that place is the Bixby Outreach Center. The Bixby Outreach Center helps families and individuals who are facing difficult circumstances in their life. Covering Bixby, Jenks, Glenpool, Leonard, Haskell, Kiefer, and Liberty Mounds the BOC is located on 77 East Breckenridge Avenue in Bixby, Oklahoma. Their motto “We are here not to offer a hand out but to offer a hand up” says it all. When a local family experiences financial hardship the BOC can help by providing food, clothing, school supplies, and someone to talk with. The outreach center provides other services based on each family’s individual needs. Download the Bixby Outreach Center 2017 4th Quarter Calendar here.
